Letters from former scholarship recipients

Received July 12, 2011

In 2003 I received a JAWAUCB scholarship to attend CAL .  I want to express my gratitude for the scholarship, it made my education possible.  I also wanted share with you my accomplishments thus far, accomplishments which sprang from the academic opportunities that your scholarship helped provide.  As an undergraduate at CAL I graduated with Honors in Psychology and with Distinction in General Scholarship.  I entered graduate school in psychology at UCLA and earned my PhD earlier this year.  I am now a Post-doctoral Fellow at UCSF studying the effects of acute stress on alcohol addiction.

I was very pleased to see on your website that your organization is going strong and providing support for young women beginning their educations.

Thank you,
Virginia Long

Received December 9, 2008

I received two scholarships from your organization during my graduate years at CAL, and I thought I should let you know that I am filing my dissertation in a couple of days for the Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures.  Receiving the scholarship meant a lot to me then, and I would like to thank you and your organization once again for your generosity.

Just so you know, my name is Carolyn Miyuki Wheeler, and my specialty is classical Japanese literature.  I am receiving my doctoral degree this semester, thanks in part to your support.

Thank you!
